Gas lighter

 

It is based on law of conservation of energy. 

"Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. But only can be transformed from one form to another"

 

What do we do while lighting gas stove using lighter?

We press it with some energy, mechanical energy.

And what we are getting is electric spark, electrical energy. So in a gas lighter, mechanical energy is converted to an electrical energy. And now, next question. What’s inside the lighter which converts the energy?

It is a piezoelectric crystal, quartz. Piezo (mechanical)electric crystal acts as a transducer( a device which converts one form of energy in to another.

Same principle as gas lighter. It is designed as one press, one spark.

But lighters working under piezoelectric principle do not work at great heights (above 800 feet’s). The higher the altitude, less likely the lighter to work.

Physics is really very simple to understand if we don’t complicate ourselves with technical terms.

Actually, in our day-to-day life, knowingly or unknowingly, we use Physics.

Have you noticed the similarity between rotation and revolution of electrons around nucleus and the rotation and revolution of planets around the sun.

Actually it’s a great art by the Great God.

Have you felt a jerk in our body when stationary bus starts or when moving bus hits a speed breaker. That’s because of inertia (technical term).

So what’s inertia?

It’s very easy to understand when we try logically.

A normal human being likes to live a very normal life they can’t accept any sudden change in their life or its human tendency to resist the changes.

That’s what happens when our state (stationary state), is disturbed by the start or speed breaker, our body suddenly resists with jerk. Jerk didn't come as it is. It’s given externally by the start or speed breaker.

The inability of the body to change its state of rest or motion by itself is known as inertia.

Another confusing terms are Scalar and Vector.

Once grammar comes, English becomes complicated.

Similarly this vector quantity comes, understanding becomes complicated.

We may think what’s wrong with scalar, why should we go to vector?

What’s wrong with distance traveled (Scalar), why should we go to displacement (vector)?

It’s very simple to understand the importance of displace with the following example

Now just tell from A to A (ABCDEFA), what is the distance traveled by the person?

Very simple question, right. 5 + 3+ 2+ 2+ 3+1 = 16 kms

But what is the displacement of that person?

5+3-2-2-3-1 = 0 kms.

    Like some autowalas and taxiwalas, start and end at same place and get money for that. I think now we can understand the importance of displacement {vector quantity).

Though everyone knows it logically, when we say the technical term, vector quantity, it appears to be complicated.

I am working as a Asst. Prof in Physics, in a Engg. college, Coimbatore. I have 10 years of teaching experience. More than that i have so much passion in physics, from my school days itself. Physics helped me to score good marks, i found it very easy to learn.
During my UG, i chose to learn Physics, only because i scored high marks in physics in HSC.
When i started doing PG, i realised that i have taken physics as my life and started learning Physics in different way.But learning UG, PG and M.Phil didn't help me even a bit for teaching. While teaching, first we should be very clear about the basics and concepts. To my conscious, i started learning true physics only when i started teaching. Till now, my learning didnt end. Everyday it is a new experience in taking classes about Physics. Students view and their level, forces me to learn more and more basic. Thanks to our college Principal, who insists more on basic physics. He also strongly believes that if we learn basic physics properly, then it will be easy to understand both engineering and technology.
